You might be wondering where we were actually living during this process, as it’s pretty clear that it wasn’t in our house. We were renting a very cool and very disco-era double-wide trailer out in the country. The town was great and the rent was cheap, but about six months into our “three months long” project, we had to make a change. We just couldn’t afford to pay bills at two houses anymore. One great thing about parents is that they’re bound by blood (okay, and love too) to take you back time and time again. Dominic and I moved in with my mom and dad, where we received some good food and TLC to fortify us during this phase.
I was teaching and Dominic was becoming a teacher at this time, so we’d do work and school during the day, then work on projects in the evenings and weekends before returning, exhausted, to my parents’ house.
I just had to share the memorable, and very distinct, color/decorating scheme of the trailer – almost everything was avocado green. I think our decorating choices for our new place were sort of a reaction against shag carpet and harvest gold wallpaper.
